We still have something to learn from cassette tapes.
In our haste for shiny, we’ve forgotten what we all unknowingly cherished from the days of tape: every cassette remembered where we left off.
I don't want to manage my play queue, or… think at all. I want to switch cassettes with abandon, and use the glovebox and passenger footwell for playlist management (but still be able to switch to another track instantly).
Spotify, for example, might be improved if every playlist were to behave more like a cassette, and remember its position from the last time it was played. That goes for both curated playlists and for implicit playlists, like the kind you get when playing an album.
